As New York City emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, Law School alumni and students convened virtually at a networking event to discuss the ongoing impact of lockdown orders and remote work on the city's real estate industry. The event, held on April 8, was organized by the Brooklyn Law Real Estate Society.

In her opening remarks, Laurie Stanziale ’97, partner at Fox Rothschild, underscored the opportunity underneath the unpredictability currently in the industry and gave encouragement to students looking to enter the field.

“What I love about what I do is that it’s tangible. It’s wonderful to walk around the city and see projects I worked on and contributed to,” said Stanziale. “Right now, even with so much discussion on the future of the city, I think that, for every person that has left, there are five more who want to live here. There may be a lot of shifting going on, but New York City real estate is here to stay.”

After Stanziale’s remarks, the attendees entered breakout rooms for expert-led discussions on their practice areas of interest. The discussions were led by Stanziale; Robert F. Alleman ’10, shareholder, Greenberg Traurig; Andrea Anderson ’04, global head of corporate real estate legal, WeWork; Evelyn D’Angelo ’13, associate, Starr Associates; Mitch Korbey ’03, partner, Herrick Feinstein; Steven Sladkus ’94, partner, Schwartz Sladkus Reich Greenberg Atlas; Moira Skeados ’09, deputy general counsel, New York City Housing Development Corporation; and Philip Tucker ’11, partner, Herrick Feinstein.

Students Molly Dresher ’22 and Daniel Landau ’21, the co-presidents of the Real Estate Society, moderated the event, with the assistance of members John Daly ’21, Crystal Liu ’22, Lauren McDonough ’22, Rommel Montilus ’23, and Erica Thompson ’23, all under the guidance of Professor Debra Bechtel.

“While we pride ourselves on all of our disciplines, we really have something special going on in real estate practice,” said Dean Michael T. Cahill. “Our alumni have made our reputation what it is and are guiding the next generation into the field.”
