09.03.15 Jonathan Wong ’17 named a 2015 Outstanding Filipinos in New York
Brooklyn Law School - Jonathan Wong '17

Jonathan Wong ’17 will be honored with the Outstanding Filipino Americans in New York (TOFA-NY) Award this October in recognition of being the youngest Filipino American elected to office in Mahwah, NJ.

Wong won a seat on the Mahwah, New Jersey, Township Council last November following a hotly contested race. A Mahwah resident since he was three years old, Wong was a longtime volunteer youth leader before deciding to enter politics at age 19.

The Outstanding Filipino Americans in New York Awards were founded by New York-based journalist Elton Lugay in 2011 to recognize organizations and individuals who have raised the profile of Filipino Americans in the tri-state area.

“TOFA-NY honorees are selected out of hundreds nominated by the community,” said Lugay. “Every year, we share their stories because they reveal the many facets of the Filipino American experience and what holds our community together.”

Presented by AARP, TOFA-NY caps the month-long Filipino American Heritage celebrations in the tri-state area. This year’s TOFA-NY Awards ceremony will take place on October 31 at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall.
